Now in its fourteenth year, Youth Work Ireland Week, showcase the incredible work happening in youth organisations and highlight the vital role youth work plays in the lives of young people.

Throughout Youth Work Ireland Week, Limerick Youth Service will have an action-packed calendar of events that will celebrate and promote the contribution of young people to our community including an opening ceremony at Lava Javas Youth Café this Saturday, April 5th.

On a national level, young people and staff from LYS will attend the annual Youth Work Ireland Political Briefing with members of the Oireachtas at the Freemason Hall, Molesworth St, Dublin on Wednesday, April 9th.

‘youth work is a right, not a privilege’

This networking event will give youth people and youth organisations an opportunity to speak with TDs and Senators about issue of relevance to them and the Youth Work for All campaign

Youth Work for All is calling for equal access to youth services in every community, so that every young person has the chance to learn, grow and belong,’ said Maurice Walsh, LYS Youth Work Manager.

‘At Limerick Youth Service we believe that youth work is a right, not a privilege. There are many young people who don’t have access to the support and opportunities that youth work provides, and we feel it’s time to change this,’ said Maurice.

One issue of importance is the development of volunteer led youth clubs with LYS and Youth Work Ireland feeling they need more support.

‘Volunteer led youth clubs are a valuable space where young people spend their time and unfortunately, for various reasons, some are struggling to remain open. It is important that we retain this vital support for young people, particularly in areas where there is a lack of alternatives,’ said Maurice.

Youth Work Ireland Week is a great opportunity for young people and their families, to learn more about the many opportunities available with more information at limerickyouthservice.com.
