Leaving Certificate Applied

Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) is a practical, career orientated course with two-thirds of it is continuously assessed.

LCA focuses on the talents of each individual student and helps them apply what they learn in the real world.

Throughout the two year duration students study combinations of the following subjects:

  • Maths
  • Communications, ICT
  • Gaeilge, French
  • Social Education
  • Art & Leisure Studies
  • Work Experience
  • Vocational Prep and Guidance
  • Woodwork, Craft and Design
  • Video & Photography
  • Drama

The first six subjects on this list are examination subjects.
Five of the six are examined at the end of the second year.

This is a full time, two year programme.  It runs from 9.15 am till 4.00pm Monday to Thursday and learners finish at 12noon on Friday. The programme requires 90% attendance and learners are asked to complete four two blocks of work experience during the two years.

Groups are no larger than 14 learners and participants are carefully selected.

The LCA is supported by the Limerick & Clare Education & Training Board and is based at LYS’ Community Training Centre, Limerick.
