Young People Celebrate Oíche na hÓige

Youth clubs and youth spaces were a hive of activity across Limerick on Friday evening, November 21st, as Limerick Youth Service celebrated Oíche na hÓige.

The Oíche na hÓige celebrations were part of a nationwide initiative that championed the impact of youth work and the creativity, connection and confidence that the profession brings to young people and communities.

Across Limerick Youth Service, young people led games, music sessions, art projects and welcomed new faces and the wider community to their respective youth clubs, café and spaces.

‘Oíche na hÓige, was a great success and we would like to thank the young people, their families and wider community for celebrating Youth Night with us,’ said Fiona O’Grady, CEO, Limerick Youth Service.

‘The evening (Oíche na hÓige) was a great opportunity for the young people with whom we work with to showcase what youth work means to them, while for at same time promotion the powerful impact of youth work,’ said Fiona.

Among the highlights of an action-packed Oíche na hÓige were:

  • Boardgames and Christmas card making the Northside Youth Space
  • Family fun with the East Limerick Youth Project, Cappamore Community Centre
  • Photography workshop with Askeaton-Ballysteen Youth Club
  • Drumming, music and art sessions at Lava Javas Youth Café, Lr. Glentworth St, Limerick
  • Alternative education taster sessions at the Community Training Centre
  • Hip-hop with Hazey Haze & Murli at Nicholas St Youth Space, Englishtown/King’s Island
  • Pool, football and more at Newcastlewest Youth Club
  • Inclusive sports for all at The Factory Southside Youth Space, Gavlone
  • Karaoke, board games and pool at Garryowen Youth Together Project
  • Baking, games and more at Rathkeale Youth Space
  • Festive fun at St. Senan’s Youth Club, Foynes
  • Youth work games galore at the new Hospital Youth Café

Volunteers Celebrate Oíche na hÓige at Cappamore Youth Group

Limerick Youth Service would like to thank the young people, families, volunteers and the respective communities for their support in making ‘Oíche na hÓige a great success and enjoyable evening.

Oíche na hÓige was an initiative of the Department of Education & Youth, delivered in partnership with the Limerick & Clare Education and Training Board, the National Youth Council of Ireland and the youth work sector.

Established in 1973, Limerick Youth Service remains committed to connecting with youth people and supporting them to reach their full potential.

Limerick Youth Service is a member of Youth Work Ireland and the Irish Association of Community Training Organisations.
