QQI Level 4 Early Childhood Skills

A two year course that equips learners with the skills necessary to pursue a career and further study in the Childcare profession.

On enrolling students study four modules: Communications, Child Development, Information Technology and Work Experience.

The child development part of the course is based around portfolio work and their work experience placement covering aspects such as:

  • Key stages of child development
  • Exploring the relationship between play and child development
  • Looking at the skills that children develop and use in different types of play activities
  • Preparing a play activity that meets the basic developmental needs of a child
  • Child observation techniques
  • Recognising the diverse needs of children and families and linking it to children at play

Learners will also avail of the social and personal development courses available with Limerikc Youth Service such as Junior Leadership Training Programmes, international youth work & summer activities.

On completion of the course learners can progress to any FETAC Level 5 course, ideally in Childcare or to employment.
