Over the years, this voluntary organisation has grown into the country’s largest local Youth Service, offering a range of personal and social development and recreational opportunities to young people throughout Limerick City and County.
The success of the Youth Service in responding to the needs of young people lies with the organisation’s founder and inspiration Sr. Joan Bowles.
Joan was killed tragically in July 2002. Her legacy includes a modern Youth Resource Centre, a network of youth groups throughout the City and County supported by trained and experienced staff and volunteers, a Youth Information Bureau and Community Training Centre.
“Joan’s People” endeavours to capture the excitement and developments of over thirty years working with young people in Limerick, with a forward by Mary McAleese, President of Ireland, the book is a fitting tribute to Sr. Joan, a woman whose vision and dreams have ensured that so many individuals have reaped the rewards of striving to reach their full potential.
