Organised by learners with the LYS Bakery Skills Project, the Pancake Day sale will see a selection of freshly made pancakes with a topping of your choice on sale.
Doors will open at the ‘Deli Hub,’ LYS Community Training Centre from 9am while member of the public can pre-order their pancakes by calling 061-412444 or emailing lys@limerickyouthservice.org.
This year’s Pancake Tuesday sale is a fundraiser for learners with the Bakery Skills Project who will be taking part in the Alliance Bakery Students and Trainees Conference (ABST) in Alton Towers, England, later this year.
LYS has a long and proud tradition of taking part in the ABST Conference, one of the most prestigious events in the baking industry.
In previous years, young people with LYS have enjoyed great success at the ABST’s respective competitions, with learner Kiril Boko triumphing in 2024. Kiri won Best in Class in the Harvest Category for his artisan style granary bread.
Kiril’s winning loaf received the Masters Award, from the Worshipful Company of Bakers, one of London’s oldest guilds with a lineage dating back to the 1100s. The award was presented by Sarah Alton, one of the UK’s leading bakery experts.

‘The ABST Conference is a fantastic opportunity for our young bakers to gain international experience and showcase their talent on a prestigious platform,’ said Paul O’Brien, LYS Bakery Instructor.
‘Many of the young people who attend the ABST Conference return with a sense of pride and confidence and an increased awareness of the many opportunities within the baking industry,’ said Paul.
‘The learners are currently preparing for Pancake Tuesday and we would appreciate the support of the community in supporting the current class to follow in their predecessors footsteps,’ added Paul.
The Professional Bakery Skills Course is a FDQ Level 2 (QQI Level 4) accredited course that is part of the further education and training opportunities at the LYS Community Training Centre.
The LYS Community Training Centre is supported by Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board and co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Social Fund.
LYS is a member of Youth Work Ireland and the Irish Association of Community Training Organisations and remains committed to connecting with young people and supporting them to reach their full potential.
