Limerick Youth Service has launched a new detached youth work project that will see youth workers engage with young people in the Limerick City Centre area.
The youth workers, Gordon Winthrop and Aoife Ryan, will be speaking with young people in their time and space-be it outside a shop, park or street corner.
‘We’d like to get to know the community, build relationships with young people and hear about what is important to them,’ said Gordon Winthrop, LYS.
‘We are not here to ‘get them off the streets’ but rather meet them where they ‘hang out,’ said Gordon adding ‘by speaking with young people we hope to get an idea of how we can support them.’
The youth workers will initially be out and about on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons and are asking anybody that sees them to feel free to stop for a chat.
