Teens Shine at Variety Show

Young people took to the stage at the TUS Millennium Theatre, Limerick recently as they took part in the spectacular Limerick Youth Service (LYS) Variety Show.

The Variety Show, the first with LYS since 2020, saw young people showcase their talents through song, dance and music to a packed auditorium.

The over two hundred people in attendance cheered and applauded the diverse displays of dance, pin dropping musical pieces to songs that included cover tracks to self-penned solo pieces.

After over two hours of entertainment, the judging panel of Zara Starr Madden and Zoe Gogarty were faced with the unenviable task of choosing the winners!

As the white smoke bellowed from their (the judges) deliberation chamber, the young people and all in attendance finally learned their fate with the results as follows:

Sophie Mason, King’s Island & Surrounds Youth Project

There was triple singing success for Nicholas St Youth Space with Jordan Casey, Carly Collopy and Sophie Mason taking the prizes back to the King’s Island and neighbouring communities.

Jordan and Sophie wowed the audience with song that they wrote themselves while Carly danced her way to success on the fames Millennium Theatre stage.

The dance troupe Afro World, LYS Diversity Youth Group, won the group dance award with an energetic performance that had everyone dancing in the aisle and backstage!

There was more success for the Diversity Youth Group with a captivating solo performance by Elisabeth, who brought all at the Millennium Theatre to their feet.

‘the talent on stage was simply incredible’

One of the loudest cheers of the evening was reserved for the young people with the Down Syndrome Limerick Youth Club who opened the Variety Show with a cover version of Ed Sheeran’s Perfect and George Ezra’s Green Green Grass through the use of Lámh signs.

The young people were presented with their awards by Fiona O’Grady, LYS CEO who paid tribute to the young people and all who made the Variety Show an ‘unforgettable experience.’

‘It was a very enjoyable evening and the talent on stage was simply incredible with a diverse mix of acts showcasing the best of the Limerick’s talented young people,’ said Fiona adding ‘you should be really proud of yourselves.’

‘It’s great to see the Variety Show back and we look forward to welcoming all back to the stage next year,’ smiled Fiona.

LYS extends its thanks to all the performers, young people, volunteers, youth workers and the team at the TUS Millennium Theatre who made the event a success.
