There were joyous and emotional scenes at Limerick Youth Service (LYS) recently as students received their Leaving Cert Applied (LCA) results.
The young people were part of the over 60,000 students who received their Calculated Grades after what has arguably been one of the surreal experiences of their lives.
‘I’m absolutely delighted with my results!’ said Jacqueline Hogan-Pool adding ‘it was two years of hard work but it’s worth it the end.’
Jacqueline was full of praise for the staff at LYS who very supportive and encouraging throughout, particularly since last March when classes went online due to Covid-19.
‘They were excellent and kept motivating us by setting weekly personal targets and tasks in addition to our course work and Zoom classes,’ said Jacqueline.
Aislinn Hannafin-Benn was another student who studied the LCA at LYS Community Training Centre and was thrilled with her results.
‘I am delighted! The LCA is one of the best things I’ve ever done and I can’t thank the staff for all their support. They were very supportive and reassuring especially with the uncertainty with Covid-19 and the exams,’ said Aislinn.
Well Done LCAs
LCA Coordinator Noreen Murphy was thrilled for the students saying ‘the results reflect the commitment and effort they put in and they should be very proud of their achievements.’
‘The situation with Covid-19 proved very challenging but due to the continuous nature of the LCA they had a large amount of the course work completed before the public health restrictions,’ said Noreen.
‘We would like to thank them for the support, patience and understanding particularly during recent months when our world completely changed,’ said Noreen.
LYS would like to echo Noreen’s words and congratulate the LCA Class of 2020:
All the above will now progress to further education and/or employment and LYS wishes them the very best of luck with their future endeavours.
The LCA is a two year course that meets the needs of students who prefer the practical and continuous assessment approach in contrast to that of the ‘mainstream’ Leaving Cert.
It is continually assessed with a strong emphasis on recognising the talents of all students, giving opportunities through the subjects and modules to develop personal responsibility and self-esteem.
The LCA is delivered at LYS’ Community Training Centre, Lr. Glentworth St, Limerick with the support of the Limerick & Clare Education & Training Board.
A member of Youth Work Ireland, LYS remains committed to connecting with young people and supporting them to reach their full potential.
