Sky Up Digital Lab Launched

All Ireland winning Hurler Cian Lynch, joined Limerick Youth Service (LYS) and Sky Ireland at the Northside Youth Space, Ballynanty on Friday last, February 23rd for the launch of the Sky Up Digital Hub.

Backed by an €11 million fund, the ‘Sky Up’ programme is a new initiative that aims to help up-skill 250,000 people across Ireland and the UK by providing them with technology, connectivity and training.  The initiative is targeted to support people under 25 in low-income areas and those over the age of 65 – the two primary groups most at risk of digital exclusion.

‘The new Sky Up Digital Hub will allow us to run a diverse range of activities and programmes, enabling young people to access digital tools, connect with peers, learn new digital skills and build their confidence in using technology,’ said Fiona O’Grady, LYS CEO

‘The Sky Up Digital Hubs we are opening across the country will ensure that those who are most at risk of digital exclusion are given access to skills, technology, and connectivity.’

Speaking at the launch, Sky Ireland Director of Legal, Áine Connor, said: “The Sky Up Digital Hubs we are opening across the country will ensure that those who are most at risk of digital exclusion are given access to skills, technology, and connectivity.’

‘It is important to Sky that we support the communities where our customers and employees live and work, and that is why we are very proud to launch this initiative with Limerick Youth Service. We look forward to the rollout of more hubs across the country,’ added Áine.

The ribbon to the new Sky Up Digital Hub was cut by Cian Lynch with the Patrickswell man saying ‘the extraordinary work by Limerick Youth Service continues to help those most in need.’

‘Limerick Youth Service are a leading provider of youth work, education, training and volunteering opportunities for young people and the Sky Up Digital Hub will no doubt be an excellent,’ said Cian.

The Sky Up Digital Hub is located at LYS’ Northisde Youth Space, Ballynanty, with those interested in using the space asked to contact Amanda at lys@limerickyouthservice.org or phone 061-408122.
