It was all hands on deck at Limerick Youth Service’s Rathkeale Youth Space recently as volunteers from Regeneron donned their overalls to help in the redevelopment of the popular West Limerick youth hub.
The Regeneron team were in Rathkeale as part of the company’s ‘Day for Doing Good’ programme, a global initiative by the pharmaceutical company.
‘Our ‘Day for Doing Good’ programme is a companywide day of service,’ said Regeneron’s Jack Kissane adding ‘our staff volunteer their time to support local community organisations and charities.’
‘Regeneron staff member, Karen O’Connor volunteers with the Limerick Youth Service (LYS) and is a member of its Board and that is why we chose the youth space in Rathkeale,’ said Jack.
The support from Regeneron was greatly appreciated by LYS and the young people at Rathkeale Youth Space.
‘We are renovating our youth space and the support from Regeneron, from providing the materials and painting was a great help,’ said LYS’ Lisa Quirke.
‘They were simply incredible and we really appreciate their hard work and support,’ said Lisa, Youth Work Coordinator, Rathkeale Youth Space.
The redevelopment at LYS’ Rathkeale Youth Space includes the creation of new activity rooms, meeting spaces and lift which will make it more accessible.
‘We aim to have the development ready for the New Year and would be delighted for the Regeneron team to come and visit,’ said Lisa adding with a smile, ‘they can even bring their paint brushes!’
Rathkeale Youth Space is a centre for the delivery of youth work for West Limerick and is located at the Abbey Court area of Rathkeale.
Rathkeale Youth Space is supported by the Department of Children & Youth Affairs with the renovation project supported by the LEADER funding through West Limerick Resources.
A member of Youth Work Ireland, LYS remains committed to connecting with young people and supporting them to reach their full potential.
