Conference on Covid-19 and Young People

Limerick Youth Service (LYS) will host a conference titled ‘Youth and Covid-19: Response, Recovery and Resilience, at Thomond Park, Limerick on Wednesday, March 29th from 9:30-4pm.

Rural Youth Mental Health Advisory Panel

Organised by young people with LYS’ Be Well Youth Mental Health Advisory Panels, the conference will discuss the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on young people, their resilience and its effect on their mental health and wellbeing.

Emer Smyth, a Research Professor at the Economic and Social Research Institute, will be the guest speaker with young people from the respective Youth Advisory Panels sharing their experiences.

Throughout the day, delegates will have an opportunity to participate in the following workshops:

  • ‘Covid-19 and Substance Use’ with the Community Substance Misuse Team
  • ‘Body Images and Eating Disorders’ with Fierna Kennedy
  • ‘Sexual Violence, Adolescence and Responding to Disclosure’ with Dr. Michelle Walsh, Rape Crisis Centre
  • ‘Interactive Consultation: Youth Voices’ with LYS’ Youth Advisory Panels

The Youth and Covid-19 Conference is for professionals who work with young people from 12-25 years.  Interested parties are asked to register via Eventbrite however, please note that spaces are limited.

The Youth and Covid-19 Conference is being organised by young people with the respective Limerick City & County Be Well Youth Mental Health Advisory Panels, who are members of LYS’ Be Well Youth Mental Health Project.

The Rural Youth Mental Health part of Be Well team was made possible through the support of RTE’s Late Late Toy Show Appeal in conjunction with the Community Foundation of Ireland.

The Be Well Youth Mental Health Project is a part of LYS which is proud member of Youth Work Ireland and the Irish Association of Community Training Centres.

Now in its 50th years, LYS remains committed to connecting with young people and supporting them to reach their full potential.
