There were joyous scenes at Limerick Youth Service (LYS) recently as young people were honoured at a Celebration of Learning at its Community Training Centre, Lr. Glentworth St, Limerick.
The young people, who are either current or past learners with LYS’ Community Training Centre were presented with their Certificates of Achievement by Martine Cournane, Limerick & Clare Education & Training Board.
Welcoming the young people, their families and friends, James Connery, Manager LYS Community Training Centre, congratulated the learners on their outstanding achievements.
‘Your results are exemplary and a reflection of your dedication and commitment,’ said James adding ‘we are proud to see that many of you have progressed to further education and employment.’
‘Those of you that have graduated are great role models to your peers who are currently studying with us,’ said James.
One of the young people to receive an award was Jamie Doyle who was encouraged to enrol with LYS by his father, who was a past trainee at the Community Training Centre.
‘After finishing school, I didn’t really know what to do and it was my dad who recommended Limerick Youth Service,’ said Jamie, a native of Castletroy.
Jamie is part of the Catering Course at LYS’ Community Training Centre and is really enjoying his time saying he has ‘met new people and learned how to cook!’
‘As part of the Catering team we cook breakfast and dinner that is served to the public,’ said Jamie adding ‘it’s busy but you learn something new every day.’
Away from the stoves Jamie also studies catering theory and has completed a number of modules including HACAP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points) training. Jamie was also nominated for a Garda Youth Award for his positive contribution to LYS where he is highly respected by his peers.
After the formalities were over the graduates spent time with their instructors, teachers, friends and family as they enjoyed some tasty treat courtesy of LYS’ Bakery & Catering teams.
LYS wishes to congratulate the young people on their success and thank their families, tutors, teachers and staff for their support.
LYS’ Community Training Centre is one of thirty five Youth & Community Training Centres across Ireland that provide further education and training courses for young people (16-21yrs).
