Our new youth leaders with staff from Limerick Youth Service enjoying the Wild Atlantic Way
Twenty five young people from across East Limerick completed the final part of their i:Lead leadership training programme with Limerick Youth Service (LYS) and Youth Scotland at the Burren Outdoor Activity Centre, Co. Clare recently.
The teenagers, who are members of a number of LYS youth clubs/projects including Cappamore, Castletroy, Castleconnell, Fedamore, Granagh and Kilfinane enjoyed a two night stay in West Clare where they took part in a variety of activities and workshops.
‘The programme covers a variety of topics such as teamwork, communication skills, body language and organising events,’ explained Sarah Moore, LYS adding ‘it equips young people with the skills and confidence to assume leadership roles in their community.’
‘The skills the young people learned will stand to them as they progress to leadership roles with their respective youth club/group,’ added Sarah, youth worker.
Away from the workshops, the young people took part in activities such as abseiling and kayaking while enjoying the fresh ocean air on the Wild Atlantic Way.
The young people were joined by Youth Scotland’s Paul McIlvenny who delivered part of the programme and shared his experiences of the programme with the young people and youth work.

Accredited by Youth Scotland, the i:Lead training programme was delivered with the support of Ballyhoura Development’s Leader funding scheme.
