Are you 16-19yrs? No longer in school? Interested in an exciting new challenge? Why not join us at Limerick Youth Service (LYS) and study the Leaving Cert Applied (LCA).
A two year full time course, the LCA is an academic, practical and career orientated programme that focuses on the talents of each student and helps them apply what they learn in the real world.
Students study a combination of subjects including Art, Communications, Maths, English, Spanish, Graphics and Construction Studies with a key focus on social & personal development.
Work placement is also a part of the course with these periods of work placement giving students an opportunity to experience employment in areas such as childcare, retail, hairdressing, mechanics, sport & leisure to name but a few.
‘I found the LCA suited me better than the Leaving Cert as I preferred the continuous evaluation,’ said Christopher Cummins, a 2nd Year LCA student with LYS.
‘My sister did her LCA with LYS and really enjoyed it so after speaking with her I decided it was what I wanted to do,’ explained Chris who plans on studying Social Care at Limerick College of Further Education.
Fellow student, Andrew Laing, also spoke about his time with LCA saying ‘I enjoyed the freedom of it and particularly loved the work experience.’
When asked what brought him LCA, Andrew said ‘I left school after my Junior Cert and found it (the time) very boring. After a few months I started a Catering Course (with LYS) and from there joined LCA.’

The LCA is delivered in a supportive environment at LYS’ Community Training Centre with the small class sizes and holistic approach allowing students develop and enjoy their experience at LYS.

LYS delivers a variety of educational and training courses and programmes for young people (16-21yrs) at our Community Training Centre, Lr. Glentworth St, Limerick and other youth spaces.
